How to add GTIN’s to Shopify products

Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs) are unique product identifiers given by manayfacturers to uniquely distinguish their product from another, so if you retail a product on behalf of a manufacturer you need to ask them for the GTIN or look at the product barcode. Every retailer that sells that product uses the same GTIN.

A GTIN is a unique product identifier, it’s usually found under the barcode on a product, but also known by other names

  • UPC

  • EAN

  • JAN

  • ISBN

What Google says about GTIN’s

In various reports Google has said that using GTIN’s increases CTR (Click Through Rate) by up to 40%.

However, Google does not make GTIN’s mandatory, you can use a feed without them, but in our agency work, we see feeds with GTIN’s perform much better than those without.

Below you can see Googles’ attribute in the feed matched with the unique product identifier you may use.
